Thanks for the vocation
The Marlin Inn Azur Resort delivers precisely what it promises: a budget-friendly 3-star experience centered on an absolutely breathtaking Red Sea location. It is crucial to manage expectations here; this is not a modern, luxurious resort, but it is an incredibly clean, well-run base for travelers whose priority is the beach, the sun, and the vibrant life of Hurghada's promenade, which sits right outside the gates. For the price point, the value is excellent, but those seeking contemporary décor and gourmet dining should look elsewhere. We stayed for seven nights and left feeling that we had received exactly what we paid for, and perhaps a little more, thanks to the stunning waterfront.
The beach is, without a doubt, the main reason to choose this hotel. The sand is soft, the area is meticulously clean, and the layout of the loungers ensures everyone has a comfortable spot without feeling cramped. The water is crystal clear, turquoise, and perfectly shallow for safe bathing. Crucially, the resort also features a fantastic jetty that extends into deeper water, providing direct access to excellent snorkeling. We saw various tropical fish, including parrotfish and bluespotted rays, right off the hotel’s property. If you are an avid swimmer or snorkeler, this private beach area alone elevates the resort’s status well beyond its official three stars.
The rooms are the area where the resort’s age is most apparent. They are spacious and kept spotlessly clean by the housekeeping team, but the décor, furniture, and bathroom fixtures are distinctly from an older era and are definitely due for a refresh. We had a sea-view room, which was worth the small upgrade for the beautiful morning view. The air conditioning unit worked effectively and quietly, which is essential during the Egyptian summer. The beds were comfortable enough, and the sheets and towels were always fresh. While there were no major issues, be prepared for a very basic, no-frills setup. The minor wear and tear (scuffed paint, older TV sets) did not detract from our comfort, but they are noticeable.
The food is perhaps the most divisive aspect of the resort, depending on your palate. It is repetitive but consistently hot, safe, and plentiful. Breakfast usually featured eggs, breads, and some basic cold cuts. Lunch and dinner were a mix of rice, pasta, chicken, fish (often fried), and a good selection of fresh salads and local vegetable dishes. It is standard 3-star all-inclusive buffet quality; you will always find something to eat, but it is not a gourmet experience. We particularly enjoyed the fresh bread and the variety of pastries offered in the mornings. The staff in the restaurant, however, were excellent—always quick to clear plates and ensure drinks were topped up, working tirelessly throughout the day.
The entire staff team, from the reception desk to the pool attendants, were consistently friendly and helpful. They operate with a strong sense of service, and we felt very welcome. The animation team was present but never overly pushy, organizing water aerobics, volleyball, and evening shows. They created a lively atmosphere without being intrusive for those who preferred peace and quiet. Check-in and check-out were smooth and quick. A special mention goes to the beach bar staff, who were always smiling despite the heat.
The hotel’s position is unbeatable. It’s located directly on the famous Mamsha (promenade), meaning you can step outside the hotel gate and immediately find shops, cafes, pharmacies, and ATMs. It’s a very safe, pleasant area for an evening walk and makes getting taxis or finding excursions extremely easy without having to travel far.
