Sunrise Royal Makadi Resort leaves a very mixed impression. On one hand, you get the magnificent Red Sea, wonderful frontline staff, and delicious desserts. On the other hand, there is a frankly tired room stock, an indifferent reception, and archaic infrastructure that doesn’t quite match the declared 5 stars in 2026.

Rooms: 3/5 (Disappointing)

• Pros: The room was clean, and housekeeping was regular.

• Cons: The furniture is old and creaky, bathrobes are missing, and we literally had to beg for basic toiletries at the reception. But the main problem is the plumbing: water constantly leaked from the shower directly onto the bathroom floor. We reported it, but their “fix” (installing a washer/gasket) didn’t work—the water kept flowing. Unacceptable for a 5★ hotel.

Reception & Guest Relations: 3/5

They talk a lot and smile, but they don’t actually want to solve any real issues. It’s easier and faster to negotiate directly with the frontline staff than to try to break through the wall of indifference at the front desk. It feels like their main task is just to hand over the key at check-in and forget about the guest.

Rest of the Staff: 5/5

This is the hotel’s biggest plus! Waiters, bartenders, animators, and cleaners are wonderful people. Everyone is polite, smiling, always ready to help, and works conscientiously. Thanks to them, the atmosphere at the resort remains friendly.

Food & Cuisine: 4/5

• Pros: The cuisine is generally good and varied. The desserts are beyond praise! The pastry chefs here are true magicians; special thanks just for the baked goods and sweets.

• Cons: Some hot dishes frankly “don’t turn out well” (overdried or tasteless), and the menu tends to repeat. For an Egyptian 5★, it’s strange to feel a lack of fresh fruits and seafood: regular fish is available, but shrimp and other seafood appear extremely rarely.

Hotel Territory: 4/5

The grounds are spacious and kept clean, but we wished for more greenery—there’s a lot of open space under the scorching sun. Lawns are watered with technical water, which periodically causes an unpleasant, specific smell.

The main issue with the territory is that it looks archaic. There is no beautiful evening lighting; the landscape design and architecture seem frozen in the early 2000s. A modern resort clearly lacks polish here.

Gym: 5/5

Excellent facility! Spacious, bright room with a good selection of machines and weights. Working out here is a pure pleasure.

Hookah (Shisha) Area: 1/5 (Absurd)

It’s absolutely unclear why this area even exists if it doesn’t work anyway? The space is allocated, the furniture is there, but there is no service. It looks like an abandoned place. They should either remove it or make a functioning lounge zone.

Beach Area & Sea: 5/5

The beach is the main reason to come here. Excellent, convenient entry into the water, beautiful reef.

• Special plus: The sunbeds! They are not made of cheap, squeaky plastic, but are comfortable, high-quality, and wooden. This is a rare find and provides huge comfort.

• Minus: There is a lack of light snacks at the beach bar during the day.
